Blog Prompt #24
Write a detailed description of your “motivations” for your final self-proposed project. Why are you interested in this subject? What do you want to convey? How do you want viewers to respond? Why are you inspired to make these images/this project? Do you want to evoke emotions in viewers? Shock viewers? Make them laugh? Make them think? Inform them? Reveal something about how you see the world? Reveal something about yourself, a person, a place, a feeling, a memory, a moment in time?
The motivation for my final self-proposed project came from the notion I have that my photos create a tangible reflection of what I see through my minds eye and what occurs in my brain. I will be handing out disposable cameras to multiple people and prompting them to shoot images that they would normally not consider taking a picture of. I will also let them know not to censor themselves and that any subject matter is acceptable. In an almost anthropological way, I am interested in how others see the world in order to compare it with myself as well as compare the images taken with each other. This project therefore also has a certain voyeuristic aspect to it. I want my viewers to be as intrigued and as interested as I am with the images that those given cameras decided to take. I think that it will be almost like a puzzle when all of the images are collaged together to create a giant wall mural. I want to evoke emotions of wonder and interest as well as urge them to consider what they would have taken photos of. I am hoping that some of the images will be shocking to the viewers, but that depends on how radical the camera holders were willing to get. Some of the images will most likely also have the ability to make the viewers laugh. One of the key points of this project is to project the way multiple people view the world. I am beginning to think that I will also use a camera or two in order to compare and contrast the way I see the world with the way the people I gave the cameras see it. I think that this project will create an in depth view into the people that took the images, mass media, popular culture and current trends in society as well as college life and popular activities for people my age as well as what they consider to be important or intriguing enough to take a photograph of.
