Complimentary

  1. Image Title: Complimentary Contract, Untitled #1

    1.Composition:
a.Perspective and point of view: The objects are shot from above to include the entire composition and the paint on top of the apple. This perspective allows the subject to transform and have the ability to be viewed in other ways.
b.Contrast: One of the main elements of this photograph is contrast. In particular the contrast of the colors, red and green.
c.Framing: I began shooting this image on a white board; I later switched to this black background, which yielded better results. The framing is straightforward.

    2.Aboutness & Motivations & Method:
In creating this image I was aiming towards the contrast of complimentary colors. The idea came to me to drip red paint on green apples after which I constructed a scene. I has to experiment multiple times with the lighting and background. The image is visually appealing and somewhat abstract.

    3.Context:
I would not say that this image deals with many larger issues outside of art and photography. It is a more visceral shot of colors and abstractions of those objects.

4.Interpretation: Students in the class had questions about the subject matter. One person suggested the objects were olives.

5.Evaluation: Based on the critique I feel that I achieved my goal of abstracting the subject I used while working with construction, composition and complimentary colors.

6.Extension: I am actually in the progress of purchasing fake apples which I will nail down to the white board I used originally and re-drip red paint to create a piece of art for a wall.
