  1. Image Title: Bathtub Lights, Untitled #2

    1.Composition:
a.Amount of subject to show in frame: I chose to only show for the most part the subjects legs and only a small portion of her torso. The floating nature of the legs allow for a mystical aspect of the photograph.
b.Lighting: The most important aspect of this image is the lighting. In a sense, the subject is the light: the glowsticks. The glowing nature of the water is an important aspect of this photograph and is attributed to the light source (the glowsticks), which is the sole light source in the photograph.
c.Framing: In the frame I included part of the subject and the bathtub. I darkened the sides of the bathtub to make it less obvious. I cropped out the rest of the bathroom, mainly the bathtub in order to create a sense of the unknown. It might have been interesting to shoot this in a larger body of water.

    2.Aboutness & Motivations & Method:
In creating this image I hoped to create a visually stimulating scene that inspires curiosity. The image became largely about the concept of placing the particular light source into a bathtub with a subject. This image both portrays and signifies mystery, illumination, experimentation and wonder. In order to create this image I used a model that was patient, bold and willing to experiment. The visual appeal of glowsticks and the oddity of their placement in water is what drew me to this idea.

3.Context: This image deals with a sense of another reality. An element is attached to both drug culture as well as childhood adventure. To me this photograph relates to psychological, chemical and cultural issues.

4.Interpretation: Students in the class interpreted this photo as a “trip in progress” and related it to the circus set.

5.Evaluation: Based on the critique, I would say that my message was conveyed to some extent. I enjoy that it was interpreted as more than simply glowsticks in a bathtub.

6.Extension: I plan to reshoot this to see where else this idea can take me. I see myself doing future images with glowsticks and water for the simple fact that I see many possibilities with this subject.
