light/motion

  1. Image Title: Bathtub Lights, Untitled #1

    1.Composition:
a.Orientation: The orientation of this photograph is portrait; however the image has the ability to become a landscape in a sense. The darkness of the figure and the light around it creates a landscape of light that moves over the figure and throughout the space.
b.Lighting: Lighting is the most important aspect of this photograph.

    c.Visual Design Elements (spot/line, shape/pattern, emphasis/balance):
Line and shape are important elements of this photograph. The slow shutter speed allowed for the glowsticks to create lines of light. The shape of the body is angular and tense in a robotic way. The presence of the lights produces balance and the lines created by the light draw the viewer’s eye from the bottom corner to the top.

    2.Aboutness & Motivations & Method:
In creating this image I hoped to create a visually stimulating scene that inspires imagination. The image is actually two images laid on top of one another.

    3.Context:
This photograph deals with elements of structure, light, color and movement. However, outside of photography it deal with psychology, chemical and cultural issues. One might see a resemblance to a rave, which involves drug, music and dance culture. There is also an “other worldly” aspect of this photograph.

4.Interpretation: Students in the class actually did not have much to say about this shot. One person suggested bringing out the green “swoosh.”

5.Evaluation: Based on the critique I will work more in photoshop with creating different colors and altering the brightness of them.

6.Extension: This shoot was very fun for me and I plan to do more like it in the future. I have many images from this shoot and I intend to work with them in photoshop to see what different alteration and combinations I can create.
