1.Composition: a.Orientation: The images in the photograph are shot from above of above and slightly to the side. They are placed in the multi-image in a somewhat chronological order.
b.Lighting: I used a hard like to reflect the gold spray paint on the background and to get an almost see-through feel to the molten wax.
c.Visual Design Elements (spot/line, shape/pattern, emphasis/balance): The red wax is able to carry the viewer’s eye throughout the image. The lines between the images also create a visual grid of sorts. There is a balance between wax, background and color that creates a pattern of line and shape throughout the image.
2.Aboutness & Motivations & Method: I was attempting to use wax and fire to create visual elements and tangible recreations of the meting of wax and the process of time. I purchased wax crystals and wicks and let my imagination run free on the “canvas” I created.
3.Context: The image represents the subconscious creativity as well as the insides of a woman’s body, in particular blood and breasts.
4.Interpretation: This could be about a woman’s body, in particular a breast. I would like to think that my subconscious creation has the ability to be interpreted in many ways, that being one of them.
5.Evaluation: There was not much said about this image in critique. More time went into discussing my other two pieces, although this was noted as interesting to look at.
6.Extension: It was interesting to document a tangible work of art in a processed manner of shooting. This is something that I would try again. I also like creating images of matter that is at one point liquid and then dries in a hardened state, and photographing it before it hardens.
