1.Composition: a.Orientation: The orientation of this photograph is portrait; however the image has the ability to become a landscape in a sense. The darkness in between the limbs of the sitter create a range for the viewer to look over.
b.Lighting: The lighting is not working as I would like it to in this image. I plan to shoot it outside. The harsh light works on the jewelry but takes away from the emotion of the sitter.
c.Visual Design Elements (spot/line, shape/pattern, emphasis/balance): Line and shape are important elements of this photograph. The shape of the body shot from above creates an object and pattern out of the figure. The way she is sitting brings an element of balance to the photo.
2.Aboutness & Motivations & Method: My friend, the sitter in this image, is a talented jeweler. I plan to shoot more of her with her work and this was my first attempt.
3.Context: The photograph in this stage has the ability to be used to sell the jewelry; however, the shape of her body and the angle from which it is shot allow for the photo to remain in the art world.
4.Interpretation: Students in the class appreciated the angle and the jewelry, especially the connection between my friend and I. They agreed with me on the lighting and mentioned that it seems “a little off.”
5.Evaluation: Based on the critique I will continue to shoot her with her jewelry. I will try different lighting and shoot outside.
6.Extension: I have many ideas for this project and plan to shoot many more of them in the future. I need to go back and work on the lighting for this particular image; however, I may simply re-shoot it (this is not to say that I entirely dislike the lighting or the color, because there are aspects of it that I do).
