    Image Title: Detroit, Untitled: 2
    1.Composition:
a.Orientation: The orientation of this photograph shot from below in order to create a majesty and power of the abandoned building. The overlaid image was shot head on and used as a transparent mask.

b.Lighting: The lighting in this image is solely natural sunlight.

    c.Visual Design Elements (spot/line, shape/pattern, emphasis/balance):
There is interesting perspective between the fence, the building and the sky that creates an interesting three-point perspective to look at. The clouds in the sky have interesting lines that draw the viewer through the image this also occurs with the architecture of the building and the pattern in the fence.

    2.Aboutness & Motivations & Method:
I wanted to make an image of the abandoned train station that was not one typically portrayed by other photographers. The overlaid flag was shot in Detroit as well and adds extra flair to the image. I shot the image from slightly below and other than putting the flag on the image did not do much to change is digitally.

    3.Context:
The image is meant to show the beauty as well as the reality of Detroit. Although it may be abandoned one is able to see the current beauty and imagine the beauty it heald in the past.

4.Interpretation: The class seemed to really like this image. Especially the angle and the flag placed on the building.

5.Evaluation: I am very pleased with this image. It is the first image I Have used in a critique with another image overlaid on it and I think it was a success.

6.Extension: It was interesting to place a “graffiti” type image on the building and I think it would be interesting to do more with this concept.

    1.Composition:
a.Orientation: The orientation of this photograph shot from below in order to create a majesty and power of the abandoned building.

b.Lighting: The lighting in this image is solely natural sunlight. I did do a bit in photoshop to create a more surreal feeling to the image.

    c.Visual Design Elements (spot/line, shape/pattern, emphasis/balance):
The light and shadow moves the viewer through this image. Also the perspective allows the viewers eyes to begin at the road and move through the shrubbery to the building and then the sky. The buildings architecture creates interesting design elements.

    2.Aboutness & Motivations & Method:
This image was simply meant to portray the abandoned train station the way that it appeared to me as I stood in front of it. I used natural light to shoot it and applied more shadow and emphasis on the light to create more drama in the image.

    3.Context:
The image is simply meant to show others what this abandoned train station looks like and show the immense size and interesting beauty of it.

4.Interpretation: I did not show this image during critique.

5.Evaluation: I did not show this image during critique; however, the people that have seen it responded very well to it.

6.Extension: I am interested in shooting more abandoned buildings in downtown Detroit.

    1.Composition:
a.Orientation: The orientation of this photograph shot from below in order to create a majesty and power of the abandoned building. The overlaid image was shot head on in a nightclub sort of location.

b.Lighting: The lighting of the background image is natural light. The overload image is composed of slow motion pictures of lights in a club.

    c.Visual Design Elements (spot/line, shape/pattern, emphasis/balance):
The building allows for a concrete view of the subject matter and the overlay creates interesting shapes and patterns that aid to that.

    2.Aboutness & Motivations & Method:
I wanted to convey this building that is being turned into a “fantasy factory.” Volunteers are doing construction on this building and turning it into a place for people to come and do art, etc. I thought the playfulness of vividness of the overlaid image would help to convey this concept.

    3.Context:
The image is meant to be concrete as well as abstract. Once again the image is meant to portray an abandoned building in Detroit.

4.Interpretation: It was interesting to be able to tell people what it was and have them be intrigued.

5.Evaluation: The image was accepted and the overlaid image was questioned. I think it would be better without the overlaid image (which it was because I have a version without it) however, I wanted to try doing this and see the reactions it would receive.

6.Extension: I think this is the end of the line for this image.

    1.Composition:
a.Orientation: The orientation of this photograph shot from below in order to create tension and raise reality into question.

b.Lighting: The lighting of this image is natural sunlight.

    c.Visual Design Elements (spot/line, shape/pattern, emphasis/balance):
The angle, sculpture and buildings create an optical illusion of sorts. The line of the statue carries the viewers’ eye up to the top of the image and down to the statues, which I think is very effective.

    2.Aboutness & Motivations & Method:
Not much went into shooting this image other than knowing that the change in perspective would create a visually interesting way to view this sculpture and location.

    3.Context:
This image is solely meant to portray this sculpture from a unique perspective and to raise questions about whether or not things have been added or subtracted in Photoshop.

4.Interpretation: People seemed to appreciate the perspective of this image and like it for the most part.

5.Evaluation: The angle was appreciated and I had a few people question if the image was a combined collage made in photoshop.

6.Extension: I think it is interesting to shoot urban landscapes and change the perspective and usual view of sculptures and I would like to do more of this.
